The National Unity Platform (NUP) party the main opposition political party in Uganda has finally confirmed Jackson Obindu as the party’s flag bearer in the Member of Parliament race for Arua Central Division after months of waiting.
The party for more than two months, has been vetting Asega Habib Jogoo, a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and Jackson Obindu, who had shown interest in the party’s flag for Member of Parliament position in Arua central division.
The two have since then been waiting for the outcome of the vetting committee.
However an official post by NUP party indicates that, the party flag was given to Obindu Jackson and NUP has asked the successful candidate to continue with his nomination at the party headquarters in Kampala.
As per NUP vetting committee, they relied on evaluating the candidates on the 60% ground support by voters and 40% questionnaire from the committee.
Ramandan Abdulhanan, the Regional Administrator for NUP in West Nile, equally confirmed Obindu’s successful selection by the vetting committee urging for more grass root support.
“It is his time now to move and start his campaigns, market the party and ensure more support,” Ramandan confirmed
When contacted Asega Habib Jogoo who failed to secure the party ticket remained reserved on the pronouncements.
However Jackson Obindu the eventual winner of the party ticket expressed higher ambitions of wining in the general elections.
“I am the strongest candidate on ground and I shall remain the strongest candidate and I do welcome the decision,” Obindu noted.
The NUP Party is among the 8 political parties competing for dominance and retention of power from the long serving National Resistance Movement.
