NUP party delegates across West Nile in a recent launch of the party’s Campaign strategy.

The National Unity Platform NUP party the main opposition political party in Uganda has failed to get a candidate in Arua central division in Arua city after a weeklong vetting.
Although two members of the party including Asega Habib Jogoo a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party and Jackson Obindu had shown interest in the party’s flag for Member of Parliament position in Arua central division, the vetting committee of the party termed as the Electoral Management Committee of NUP without giving a reason directed for a review of the vetting exercise.
As per NUP vetting committee for a candidate to get the party’s ticket, he or she must have been marked out of 60% for the ground support by the voters and 40% questionnaire from the committee.
Ramandan Abdulhanan the Regional Administrator NUP party West Nile confirmed that the matter is beyond his office as more members of the vetting committee are in Arua central carrying out the exercise. He noted that much as this delay is affecting the party’s activities, there’s nothing much they can do as admins of the party.
“The issue of Arua Central division is a bit technical that cannot be said by any of us in the Electoral management Committee, so it’s with the vetting committee and they know it best. I don’t know exactly that delayment, Is it because they’re trying to figure out on how to position them or what?” Ramandan explained.
When contacted Asega Habib Jogoo a contestant for the NUP ticket remained reserved on the decision taken by the party saying he will speak when the final evaluation outcome is presented. “We will talk on it when it is out, because anytime the result will be out”, Jogoo noted.
However Jackson Obindu another potential contender of the party ticket revealed that the decision taken by the committee is a waste of time as the voters know their candidate.
He maintains that he is the right candidate but faults the party of not considering the choice of the voters. “I have the ground, I have the strength but my opponent works with the secretariat there’s that conflict of interest so the party is conflicted,” Obindu stated.
The NUP Party deployed a unique system of identifying candidates at various elective positions across the country through vetting by independent committee.
