The Association of Catholic Educational Institutions (ACEI) in the Archdiocese of Gulu has elected a new executive committee during its Annual General Meeting held at Uganda Martyrs Major Seminary, Alokolum.
The meeting brought together headteachers from Catholic-founded schools across the Archdiocese to review the association’s achievements, discuss challenges facing Catholic education, set priorities for the future and elect leaders who will guide the association for the next term.
Newly elected Chairperson Charles Opira, Administrative Assistant at St. Monica Girls Tailoring School, pledged to strengthen ACEI by expanding opportunities for Catholic schools, particularly vocational institutions.
Opira said he would use his experience as the regional coordinator for UGAPRIVI within the GANAL Province to connect schools with development projects and partnerships. Opira said his leadership will focus on creating more opportunities for Catholic-founded schools through partnerships and development projects.
“”I thank you for trusting me with this office, I will lead this association with commitment. There are many opportunities available, and since our target is to empower schools through projects, I will work to ensure our institutions benefit.”
Outgoing ACEI Chairperson Bena Atim, who is also the Headteacher of Archbishop Flynn Secondary School, congratulated the new leadership and pledged continued support to ensure a smooth transition.
Atim encouraged the incoming executive to work together as a team and remain committed to strengthening Catholic education.
“We pledge our full support as the outgoing executive to ensure that ACEI continues to grow. We will move together as one team. This work requires sacrifice, and you should take on this responsibility knowing that you are serving the Church,” Atim said.
The Education Secretary of the Archdiocese of Gulu, Rev. Fr. Stephen Raphael Kilama, commended ACEI’s growth and urged the new leadership to advance the Church’s vision for Catholic education.
The Education Secretary of the Archdiocese of Gulu, Rev. Fr. Stephen Raphael Kilama, commended ACEI’s growth and challenged the new leadership to strengthen Catholic education across the Archdiocese.
Fr. Kilama said the association has great potential to address challenges facing Catholic-founded schools and support the Archbishop’s vision of making educational institutions centers of evangelization.
“I am very pleased with the establishment of this association because it has great potential to resolve many of the issues we face in our Catholic-founded schools. ACEI should be at the forefront of realizing the Archbishop’s vision of making our educational institutions centers of evangelization. Together, we shall be a strong force in strengthening the education sector of our Archdiocese,” says Fr Kilama.
Addressing members during the Annual General Meeting, Archbishop Raphael P’Mony Wokorach urged the newly elected leadership and members of the Association of Catholic Educational Institutions (ACEI) to recommit themselves to their core mandate of promoting excellence in Catholic education.
The Archbishop observed that the quality of education across the Archdiocese still requires significant improvement and challenged the association to take a more active role in raising educational standards. He also called on ACEI members to remain attentive to the needs of schools, teachers, and learners, emphasizing that their leadership is vital to strengthening Catholic education and advancing the Church’s mission.
“Your responsibility is to ensure that the quality of education in our schools continues to improve. Be attentive to the needs of our schools, our teachers, and our learners. When you faithfully carry out your mandate, you will strengthen Catholic education and contribute to the holistic formation of the young people entrusted to our care,” Archbishop Wokorach said.
Established in 2022, the Association of Catholic Educational Institutions (ACEI) coordinates the activities of 637 Catholic-founded schools across the Archdiocese of Gulu.
Guided by its motto, “Go and Teach All Nations” (Matthew 28:19), the Association of Catholic Educational Institutions (ACEI) seeks to promote collaboration among Catholic-founded schools, improve the quality of education, support school development initiatives, and strengthen the role of education in the Church’s mission of evangelization.
