In a vibrant gathering at Daudi Courts in Paidha Town Council, Zombo District, on October 4, 2025, the Alur Kingdom inaugurated a revered committee to orchestrate the 15th coronation anniversary of His Majesty Ubimu Philliph Rauni Ularker III, the cherished Alur King.
This milestone celebration, set for October 31, 2025, under the theme " My Culture for Wealth Creation" , will be hosted by the Kal Omua Chiefdom in Paidha Town Council, at the playgrounds of the former Paidha Primary Teachers College.
The theme, “My Culture for wealth creation ”, resonates deeply with the Alur’s rich cultural heritage, emphasizing the abundant opportunities embedded in the Kingdom’s traditions and the fertile lands that yield bountiful crops such as Arabica coffee, matooke, and avocados. These resources, when harnessed by the Alur people, hold the potential to transform livelihoods and foster prosperity across the Kingdom.
Dr. Amos Nyathirombu, the Kingdom’s esteemed Minister of Health and Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee for the 15th coronation anniversary, presided over the gathering, guiding the selection of distinguished departmental heads to ensure the event’s resounding success.
Speaking to the press after the launch, Dr. Nyathirombu announced that His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. He expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to fulfill its sacred duties and called upon Alur subjects in Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and the diaspora to lend their generous support and contributions toward the anniversary.
“The Alur Kingdom has already pledged resources, and several corporate entities have begun contributing to this noble cause,” Dr. Nyathirombu declared. “I urge our leaders, stakeholders, and local authorities to unite in ensuring this celebration honors our King and our heritage.”
He added, “Today, we have launched a committee to steer this event to greatness. I call upon all our people to rally behind this anniversary, as we prepare to welcome President Museveni and distinguished kings and chiefs from other cultural institutions.”
The Alur Kingdom, spanning Uganda and the DRC, encompasses 56 chiefdoms in Uganda and 8 in the DRC, with a population numbering in the millions.
Representatives from the Alur community in the DRC attended the launch, pledging their unwavering support for the forthcoming coronation anniversary.
David Ongom, Secretary of the Kal Omua Chiefdom, delivered a heartfelt address, welcoming the event to Paidha. “We, the people of Kal Omua, open our hearts to this anniversary. We believe it will bring blessings and prosperity to our community, and we call upon all to support it,” Ongom said.
John Pascal Wapokra, the Kingdom’s Minister of Lands and Vice Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee, praised the Kal Omua Chiefdom for their solidarity in hosting the event. “Kal Omua has shown true unity with the Alur Kingdom. I urge the people of Paidha to embrace this celebration with open hearts, honoring the deep historical ties we share,” Wapokra said.
To engage the community in the lead-up to the anniversary, the Kingdom has organized the “Kopu P’u Bimu” sports tournament and the MTN Ker-Alur Bicycle Run 2025 for both men and women, igniting excitement and unity among the Alur people.
Dr. Nyathirombu called for intensified mobilization and media amplification to ensure a massive turnout and a triumphant celebration.
Sam Rwothomio, a youth activist and aspirant for the Paidha Town Council LCIII seat, emphasized the power of collective effort: “Through unity and collaboration, we can overcome any challenges and make this anniversary success.”
Similarly, Adong Sarah, a candidate for Zombo Woman MP, urged all Alur to set aside political differences and showcase their cultural pride. “Our rich cultural diversity must shine before the world. Let us contribute our resources and presence to make this event a triumph,” she said.
The Alur Kingdom’s coronation anniversary is a vibrant tapestry of storytelling, cultural dances, dramas, poems, and exhibitions that illuminate the sanctity, uniqueness, and beauty of a Kingdom that has thrived for over 400 years.
John Pascal Wapokra urged school leaders present at the launch to ensure students perform traditional Alur dances and anthems, fostering a deep connection to their heritage.
Gilbert Jakwonga, Headteacher of Divine Mercy Nursery and Primary School in Paidha, affirmed his school’s readiness to showcase cultural performances, ensuring the younger generation embodies the pride of Alur traditions.
This year’s anniversary, part of a rotational tradition determined by His Majesty the King, follows the 2023 celebration held in Parombo Town Council, Nebbi District.
