ANIMAL HEALTH IN JEOPARDY: ETARAKA FARMERS SEEK SOLUTION

Farmers in Ayivu Division, Arua City are facing significant challenges due to the lack of timely veterinary services. The absence of readily available veterinary care has led to animals and birds falling prey to diseases without receiving proper medical attention.

Lino Asara, one of the affected farmers, expressed frustration over the situation saying while some veterinarians do come to their aid, they often take their own time, leaving animals to suffer. "Unfortunately, we lack a resident veterinary officer to provide timely assistance, and we're unsure how to access their services.

This affects the health of our animals. Although some veterinarians visit our area, they often take a long time to respond," he said.

Andama Morris Edema, another farmer, urged his colleagues to prioritize animal care while continuing to advocate for better veterinary services stating that, they need to take good care of their animals, but they also require accessible and timely veterinary services to ensure their health and productivity.

"Many farmers in our community keep poultry and livestock, such as pigs, but I've observed that some don't provide proper care. I urge fellow farmers to prioritize animal welfare, treating our livestock with the same care we'd give ourselves." Morris said.

The farmers' plight highlights the need for improved veterinary services in the area to support local livestock farming and prevent unnecessary losses.
