Arua city security authorities have intensified efforts to shut down Alliance Global in Motion (AIM Global) due to allegations of human trafficking and fraud, with the organization being flagged by the Ministry of Internal Affairs for operating a deceptive Ponzi/pyramid scheme.
Recruiters entice unemployed youth from various regions to Arua with promises of lucrative employment, only to require them to pay hefty fees ranging from UGX 150,000 to UGX 1 million. These victims are coerced into selling food supplements and recruiting others to sustain the scheme.
Matua Job Richard, the Assistant Resident City Commissioner of Arua, confirmed the office of RCC’s commitment to cracking down on AIM Global’s operations in the area.
“For us as an office we are like following this matter, we want to establish where these people are located in Arua City here. And I can assure you when we find it, even leg of human being we will find in that office will be arrested because we cannot sit by as our people are being cheated,” he said.
Previously, AIM Global had established operational hubs, such as on Transport Road in Arua City.
Community Liaison Officer, IP Matua Alfred Otokira reported that multiple raids have taken place across Arua and other locations, leading to the arrest of administrators, coordinators, and directors involved in the scheme.
“Aim Global for sometime it has been in the news, some members were recently arrested about 12 of them were presented by police to court, they are serving a sentence down there,” he said
Furthermore, Judith Bako, the Assistant RCC of Arua central division, urged residents of the West Nile region to remain cautious and vigilant against pyramid schemes.
“I want ask our people especially in Arua Central division, Arua City or within this region to be very vigilant, because this is not a true company, this is a company that comes as a thief to steal our communities and it causes poverty amidst us. As security we are already aware and we shall continue to fish them out,” she said.
The scam’s reach extends beyond Arua, with coordinated efforts in Kampala, Mbarara, and Greater Masaka resulting in the rescue of victims and shutdown of offices. Government reports estimate that hundreds of youths, especially girls aged 17–25, have been caught in overcrowded living quarters after losing their money to the scam.
