Health Officials of Arua City Council have revealed that a target is set to vaccinate 93% of the city’s population in the forthcoming Yellow Fever Vaccination Campaign by Ministry of Health.
The officials estimate that 400 people from each village will be vaccinated in the 5-days exercise starting from Friday, 09th June 2023 to Tuesday, 13th June 2023.
While speaking during advocacy meeting ahead of this campaign, the Senior Nursing Officer Incharge of Vaccination in Arua City, Sr. Sally Andezu confirms that, preparation is moving on smoothly. “At (former) sub county levels, training is ongoing for our health workers who will work on the days of vaccination” she said.

The 2014 National Population and Housing Census by Uganda National Bureau of Statistics indicates that Arua City had a population of 309,052 while the projection by 2020 was at 361,400.
93% of this population according to the health officials will be vaccinated against Yellow Fever which is done once in a life time, while the remaining percentage is said to comprise of children below 9 months and elders more than 60 years who are not qualified for the vaccine.
Arua City Deputy Mayor, Millicent Milly Inzikuru urged leaders to spearhead the campaign for its success. “We should be on the forefront to start the vaccination so that people see from us. Our concern is that there are people who are fighting government as result, they want to fight all government program without considering even the wellness of their people” she decries, adding a call that “when programs to save lives comes, politics should be left aside”.
However, Deputy Resident City Commissioner Incharge of Arua Central Division, Isha Ntumwa calls for transparency during and after the campaign. “These campaigns are always done but the issues arising after the campaign are related to finances. The good exercises are painted with bad spots because of financial indiscipline” the DRCC warned.
171 teams of 5 people comprising 2 vaccinators, 2 recorders and 1 controller are already formed for the vaccination exercise in schools, markets, churches and mosques among other public place across the city.
