Arua city Taskforce for the prevention, response and control of diseases is seeking for support to boast the operations of the established two isolation centers.
The taskforce team identified two isolation centers one at Oli health center IV and the other in Adumi health center IV so as to manage the looming waves of Mpox and the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever in the city.
However, the two facilities are grappling with challenges of utilities, supplies and other medical equipment’s as well as the inadequate capacity of health care workers.
Mathew Oyoku the focal person case management and isolation of the taskforce revealed that the two already identified facilities are ill equipped and is a danger in managing disease outbreaks.
“The isolation units lack IPC supplies ranging from PPEs (Personal Protective Equipments), most of the supplies were used during the covid-19 wave, if cases are taken in those isolation centers, then managing them becomes challenging.”
Whereas, Gordon Acidri the focal person Laboratory says the capacity of health workers to diagnose Mpox is limited as well as other diseases.
“Much as the health workers have learned about Mpox, it is like a few of them have the knowledge of diagnosing the disease and this makes our suspicion index very low.”
Alfred Amandu the Environmental Health officer Arua City explains that the city has taken several measures to approach the outbreaks of Mpox and the already confirmed Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever death case from escalating.
“The outbreak status of Arua city is been closely monitored by the local, national and international health authorities, while the situation is been managed by proactive measures, vigilance is essential to prevent further spread.”
Current endemic disease situation in Arua City show that, the city has a cumulative 8 confirmed cases of Mpox with one death all concentrated with the central city division while the city also confirmed 1 death of the Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever last week with 21 human samples and 8 from goats awaiting results.
