A section of teachers in Arua City has raised objections to the government's recent plan to sponsor three children of a teacher from primary level up to university level.
The teachers have expressed skepticism about the proposal, citing concerns about its implications and effectiveness.
Philiam Drazu, one of the teachers states that, he has not received any official documentation regarding the matter and is therefore unsure about the details of the proposal.
"Without an official document, it's difficult to comment on the proposal," Drazu said. "I'm not sure what the government intends to achieve with this plan, and I'd like to see more information before commenting further."
Rashid Anguzu, the head teacher of Arua Secondary School, suggests that, the government should consider sponsoring all the children of a teacher rather than just three.
"If the government is serious about supporting teachers, they should take all the children, not just three," Anguzu said. "This would be a more meaningful way to show appreciation for the hard work and dedication of teachers.
Taziano Alionzi, the head teacher of Micu Secondary School, expresses doubt about the government's intentions behind the proposal. "I think this is just a way for the government to convince teachers that they care about our welfare," Alionzi said. "But we need more concrete actions to support our work and improve the education system in Uganda."
While the proposal may be well-intentioned, the teachers' concerns and suggestions highlight the need for more careful consideration and consultation and as the government moves forward with this plan, it will be important to prioritize the needs and concerns of teachers to ensure that the proposal achieves its intended goals.
