Arua city has unveiled the validation of the draft city development plan IV, which outlines key issues that the city development plan will focus on.
The key development plans cut across the different sectors of education health Human capital, production, tourism and infrastructure among others.
While presenting the highlights of the draft, the city planner, Marchel Anguyo revealed that, the development plan is part of Uganda vision 2040 that aims at integrating 90% of the Ugandans ‘into the money economy
“It was envisioned that in by 2040 the economy would expand to a GDP of 581 billion US dollars and 90% of Ugandans fully integrated in the money economy. This means a more than a tenfold increase in the current GDP of 50 billion US dollars in the next 15 years,” he noted.
The Executive Director of West Nile Civil Society Network (WECISNET), Feni Twaib, says there is need for combined efforts to make achievements in the next five years.
“I believe that, with what we saw if it’s implemented fully we would see our city in another level. Perhaps, what we need to do is to encourage all the stakeholders to take active part in the monitoring the implementation of this and also cooperate fully with authorities that are going to be charged with the responsibility of implementing the plan with the support of the political leadership,” Feni emphasized.
Ceaser Dracebo, the former President for Arua City Development Forum, urged that the city should deliberate on strategies that can draw the city dwellers to get involved in the implementation of the city development plan.
“I love to see that we come with a clear communication strategy attached to this plan to get the stakeholders to own and participate in the development agenda of this city,” he called.
This is the fourth City development plan to implement the Uganda vision 20240 which cabinet approved in 2007 for transforming Ugandan societies form peasant to having a modern and prosperous country.
