In a bid to conserve the environment and promote sustainable living, youths in Arua City have been urged to embark on a tree planting initiative.
The call was made during a recent visit to Nunu Primary school by Ediofe Parish youth apostolate leadership, where youths from different chapels converged to discuss ways of greening their environment.
Alioni Christopher, a passionate youth leader, rallied his colleagues to utilize fields that aren’t favourable for crops to plant trees. "Trees not only act as food, but they also improve our own body health," Christopher emphasized. "By planting trees, we can create a healthier environment, reduce pollution, and even provide shade for our communities." Alioni stated.
Ariaka John, the project manager of Ediofe Parish Youth Apostolate, echoed Christopher's sentiments, reminding the youths that they are still capable of doing something meaningful for their environment. "We may not have a lot of resources, but we have the power to make a difference," John said.
Brenda Atizuyo from Kasua cell added a crucial point, urging the youths to protect the already planted trees, especially edible ones. "We need to take care of the trees we've planted, ensuring they grow and thrive," Atizuyo said. "This will not only provide us with food, but also help us to maintain a healthy environment."
Planting trees has numerous benefits, including absorbing carbon dioxide, reducing soil erosion, and providing habitats for wildlife and by planting trees, youths can make a positive impact on their community and contribute to a healthier planet.
