Members vying for the Arua city National Resistance Movement NRM party chairperson will have to wait longer following the persistent ban on the election by the party’s electoral commission over an unknown reason.
NRM party commenced formation of her structures from village to district and city levels in May this year as guided by the party’s election roadmap but this did not flow slickly in the city though posters of some aspirants for the city chairpersonship were seen around the city party office.
Tutu John, one of the contestants for Arua city NRM party chairperson revealed that he only received a letter informing him of the indefinite ban of this election.
“About the postponement of the elections, there is a letter to that effect, on that letter there’s nothing indicated when it will be, its just been postponed, I was an aspirant because there was going to be election, I will still remain an aspirant,” Tutu naked.
Unconfirmed reports about the ban indicates the party’s electoral commission is yet weighing the unresolved divergent demands of a district for Ayivu and more city divisions for Arua city to build its structures.
According to NRM party structure election criteria, the lower structure elections will provide a lee way for the national delegates conference scheduled for August 22- 25 this year, where leaders from the various district and city will converge. But till now Arua city NRM office is yet lingering though the position attracted an unconfirmed number of aspirants.
Arua city NRM party registrar Tom Amagu said, “About the structure elections for Arua city the ban is still there they haven’t communicated when the election is supposed to take place, if the elections are not conducted we shall be asked to get leagues direct from former sub counties, the main stream and league chairpersons plus the old city executive will be the ones to go to the delegates conference,” Amagu confirmed.
NRM party on May 19, this year while meeting the leaders of Arua city and some group of people from Ayivu revived the former sub counties and divisions in Arua city for its structure formation and that is where the party dillydallied.
