Police in Arua are investigating an alleged aggravated defilement case involving a 24-year-old man, who reportedly defiled her own 12- year- old cousin.
Police say the incident occurred on November 12, 2024 at Orivu Cell, Alivu Ward, Ayivu West Division, Arua city.
The West Nile regional Police Spokesperson Collins Asea said in a statement that, the matter came into spot light after the victim's father Azibu Relev, 70, a resident of the same area registered the case to police.
Police preliminary findings indicates that the 12-year-old girl fell prey to the suspect upon sharing the same room, when they were left at home alone.
"The matter was reported to Ayivu West Police Station by Mr. Azubu relev a 70-year-old resident of the same area and the father of the victim. According to initial reports, the victim, a 12-year-old girl, was left at home with the suspect, a 24-year-old cousin, while the father was away at work. Circumstances led to the victim sharing a room with the suspect, during which the alleged incident occurred" Asea's statement reads in part.
As police intensify inquiry into the incident, Police have urged parents to take extra care of children, as they return home for holidays.
