Vendors in Arua main market have elected a new market leadership to steer their Association in the next three years.
The election that presented 170 sector leaders from 32 sectors in Arua main market to constitute voters to participate in the election went on successfully without disruptions.
Herbert Odama, the chairman Arua main market who emerged unopposed vows to be transparent and exercise visionary leadership for the benefit of the members.
“Our effort has been in building the market and now that the vendors have settled, it is high time that during my 3 years tenure in office we shall cooperate with the vendors to see that we develop financially. We have been having challenges with street vending and in my tenure in office, I need to cooperate with city council and the division council to ensure that the issue of street vendors is addressed.”
The General Secretary Beatrice Eyotaru, who also emerged the unopposed points at bringing positive change in the market.
“I am going to work hand in hand with them together with the chairman who has been elected hoping that we bring in trust, work with love and passion. Whatever thing that has been happening before we hope that it is not going to continue for us as new leadership,” Eyoaru said.
Arilo Twaha the election organizer reveals that the other position of elders, the PWDS and women representative are always voted by the sector leaders to join the leadership team.
Out of the 9 positions, 3 of the positions were unopposed while the rest were elected through a secret ballot.
