The National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Arua city has rescheduled its joint campaign activities for July 3, 2025, after a successful harmonization meeting held on Wednesday at the city council hall.
The exercise that was initially planned to commence on July 1, were postponed due to a lack of clear guidelines for the campaigns.
Tom Amagu, the NRM registrar for Arua, emphasized the importance of adhering to the guidelines issued by the party secretariat during the campaigns.
“The campaign meetings shall commence from 10am and close at 6pm. After closing the campaigns, no campaign meetings, processions or rallies shall be allowed. During the campaign meetings, candidates will use the local language of the area or other languages of their choice. The use of vulgar languages during the joint campaigns will never be entertained and no campaign related activities are expected to take place after 6pm” he said.
Meanwhile James Emvi, the party’s Administrative Secretary, cautioned candidates against opposing party rules.
“We shall strictly follow the guidelines. We have heard that some people are saying that they don’t want joint campaigns. That’s a wrong decision they are taking. It is already a law put by the party. For us, we shall go by the rules and regulations or guidelines issued by the party to conduct these elections” he emphasized.
The campaign period runs from July 1 to 14 with the primary elections scheduled for July 17 2025.
In his call to the candidates, during the issuing of guidelines for the joint campaigns, Salim Kumakech, the Resident City Commissioner (RCC) of Arua City, urged candidates to desist from electoral violence during the campaigns in order to promote peaceful electoral activities.
“According to me there is no harm in conducting these joint campaigns and let us follow the constitution of the party we all subscribe to. Please don’t disadvantage your chance of winning and holding the flag of the party by inspiring your opponents through attacking them. Concentrate on yours, that’s how you can win” Kumakech advised.
Levi Dema, the Vice Chairperson of NRM for Arua, called on candidates to respect their opponents’ views and opinions during the campaigns.
“My advice to you candidates is that we are all West Nilers, we are brothers and sisters. After these campaigns, nobody will move away, we shall remain here and this campaign season should not create for us enmity” he pleaded.
The party’s regulations and guidelines aim to ensure a smooth, peaceful electoral process, fostering respect among candidates and preventing violence.
Overall, the NRM party is focused on maintaining discipline and unity during the campaign period, emphasizing adherence to party rules and encouraging respectful political conduct among candidates.
