Kenya's First Daughter, Charlene Ruto, has urged Ugandan youths and women to embrace agriculture. This call was made during her exchange visit to Abja Farms Limited, located in Arwotongo village, Zuma Parish, Myene Sub-county, Oyam district.
Charlene, who is also the executive director of SMACHS Foundation, one of the farms at the forefront of promoting sustainable agriculture in Kenya, emphasized the importance of young people and women embracing agriculture.
She highlighted its vital role in tackling food security and environmental challenges, bolstering alliances in sustainable agriculture.
She commended Abja Farms for its significant role in generating employment opportunities and enhancing climate resilience in the local community.
Jane Frances Acilo, the Oyam District Woman MP aspirant and director of Abja Farms Limited, committed wholeheartedly to continue empowering youth and women through the principles of sustainable agriculture.
Benson Walter Dila, the LC5 chairperson of Oyam district, appreciated Jane Frances Acilo for her dedicated work. However, he also identified the lack of electricity and climate change as major challenges affecting the farm that need urgent attention.
Kitutu Habert Federick, the chief administrative officer of Oyam district, pledged total support to the farmers to increase employment opportunities among youths and women.
Similarly, Kocks Albino Ogwal, the District Production Officer of Oyam, committed that as a department, they will offer all the necessary technical services to any serious farmer in the district, as 95% of their population are farmers.
According to reports, this collaboration between Kenyan and Ugandan farmers will ensure exchange visits in the field of agribusiness to foster regional development.
