Disgruntled Urban Cash Beneficiaries Protest in Arua City

By Joseph Abiria

Group of urban cash beneficiaries took to the streets in Arua City to protest over what they termed as unfairness in line to start work. The protesters accused the leadership of Arua Central Division for letting them down to start work after having entered into an agreement with international labour organization to pilot various projects in each of the 50 cells in Arua Central Division.

However the 3 cells of kebir, kirabu and Jacinto have not yet received their funds worth 70 million shillings. The beneficiaries claim that their initial project of drainage and garbage maintaince was hijacked by a team of officials from Arua Central division led by Dorcus Asinduru, the town agent Kenya ward.
Joel Adoroti, a resident at kebir cell says council decided to go against their will and opted for construction of a market at kirabu cell. Ejaga Samari, the LCII Chairman of Kenya ward argues that part of the funds have already been mismanaged by the accused officials and therefore they are simply buying time to deceit the beneficiaries.

In response the speaker of Arua central Division, Rashul Osuga swallowed the blames raised by the concerned beneficiaries saying council made a grave mistake to go against the decision of the money owners since the land at kirabu does not belong to council. He adds and the market project requires huge sums of money to undertake. The over 400 beneficiaries were supposed to work for a period of 3 months and bag 6500 shillings per day. Efforts to reach to Dorcus Asinduru about the matter proved futile as she declined to speak to the media.
