St. Mary's Ediofe Girls' Secondary School has made a notable mark by commemorating the Jubilee Year in a grand manner. The event, which commenced with a procession from the school compound to the Cathedral, drew significant attention from passersby on the road.
The Jubilee Year is a profound religious and cultural event that occurs every 25 years, deeply rooted in biblical tradition. The current Jubilee Year began on December 24, 2024, marking a period of spiritual reflection, renewal, and celebration.
According to Sr. Josephine Aciro, the headmistress of the school, the mass was organized to enlighten the students about the significance of the Jubilee Year and the practices that accompany it.
"We wanted our students to understand the essence of this special year and how they can benefit from its spiritual graces," she explained.
Msgr. Charles Idraku, who presided over the mass, urged the Christians in attendance to observe the practices associated with the Jubilee Year, such as releasing prisoners, forgiving debts, and other acts of mercy.
His reflections served as an emotional reminder of the importance of compassion and forgiveness during this sacred period.
Specioza Asienzo, one of the students, shared her experience, saying, "At first, I knew little about the Jubilee Year, but the mass has enriched my understanding of its significance. I promise to put the teachings into practice and live out the spirit of the Jubilee Year."
Jubilee as a tradition has been a cornerstone of the Catholic Church, offering the faithful a chance for spiritual renewal and growth.
The celebration of the Jubilee Year at St. Mary's Ediofe Girls' Secondary School is a testament to the institution's commitment to fostering spiritual growth and development among its students.
As the students embark on this journey of reflection and renewal, they are reminded of the importance of living out the values of compassion, forgiveness, and mercy.
