Parents of Kolokolo primary school in Eria parish, Moyo Sub County have urged the office of the district education officer to better close the school due to persistent understaffing.
According to them, several teachers have been transferred without replacement hence affecting the performance of the learners.
Kolokolo primary school is currently having only 6 Staff teaching the total enrollment of 183 leaners which the parents say the few teachers are being over worked and loaded.
Deo a parents of Kolokolo primary school says they are not happy with the current number of teachers who are only six teaching the entire school as its affecting the performance of the learners.
Tabaga Taratizio the LC One of Kolokolo village noted non-replacement of the teachers has greatly contributed to the poor performance of the leaners. “Our children are coming to fail due to the understaffing, to me the school should be closed since there is no response from the sub county and the district leaders as parents we are not happy to see our children failing,” he noted.
According to Vuzara Charles Leonard the PTA chairperson, this matter has been reported to the office of the DEO on several occasions but no response. “Our two teachers were transferred from Kolokolo up to now there is no replacement but there is no response,” Vuzara noted.
Oaikane Gladys the head teacher of the school said currently there are 6 teachers for seven classes. “I as the head teacher am supposed to teach only 1 subject but I teach four subjects and am a class teacher and also the senior woman teacher of my school,” she revealed.
Gladys added that early this year one of her senior staff did interview and passed where he has been transferred. “When he was transferred another teacher was brought to replace him but this teacher up to date has not reported,” she pointed.
Getting response from the DEO Mali Michael said Kolokolo primary school is over politicizing their problems. “I think we have been with the school management committee, the head teacher among others on several times, I don’t know why they do not want to tell the truth, we posted a teacher who refused to go” he noted.
