Authorities in Laropi Town Council in Moyo District have conducted a clean-up exercise targeting Laropi Landing Site, the main market, and other parts of the town as part of efforts to raise awareness about sanitation and hygiene in the community.
The campaign aims to help residents understand the importance of keeping their surroundings clean in order to prevent the outbreak of diseases.
The “Keep Laropi Town Council Clean” campaign brought together Local Council One chairpersons, Village Health Teams (VHTs), newly elected leaders, members of the business community, school representatives, and technocrats.
Speaking during the exercise, Alex Amolu, the Acting Health Inspector for Laropi Town Council, said the initiative began with sanitation awareness activities across all the four wards of the town council, namely Kidhi, Meria, Central, and Laropi wards. “When we conduct this kind of activity, we sometimes face challenges within the community, especially where waste generated from individual premises is not properly managed,” he said.
One of the participants, Ababiku Asha, commended the Laropi Town Council authorities for initiating the campaign and pledged continued support. “As a food handler, this exercise helps in keeping our place clean for our customers,” she said.
According to Tiondi David Luga, the Local Council Three Chairperson, it is the leadership’s vision to see Laropi rise from its current status and become one of the cleanest towns in the country.
Similarly, Anyama Charles, the Senior Town Clerk of Laropi Town Council, said the intention is to create a visible difference among town councils across the country with the support of the community. “We shall continue with this activity at least on a quarterly basis so as to keep the town clean,” he added.
Laropi Town Council’s physical development plan was designed in 2022 and is expected to run until 2032.
