The 13th edition of the annual Makerere University Business School (MUBS) hospitality day was hosted by Arua city. The day held annually by the school especially the main campus is a part of the coursework test that the learners doing Leisure and hospitality at the institution undertake yearly and contributes to their marks as they wind up their course. This event which is always held in the last semester of the third year has been held for the past twelve years in different districts and cities across the country but for this year 2022, the institution chose to have it held in arua city for the first of its kind at Arua Public primary school play grounds.
The event which took place on Friday 14th July 2022 drew people from across arua city and learners especially from the host school to learn from what the students of MUBS were showcasing.

Baka Billy Ronald, the deputy Head Teacher of Arua public primary school the host school said, it provided an opportunity to the young children to see some of the things they have been learning theoretically in class as there were some talent exhibitions and other things that will help them in their own processes of learning.
Pricilla Lamwaka, a lecturer at the university in the faculty of tourism travel and languages says as an institution they always encourage students to showcase the best they can since it contributes to what they are supposed to obtain as marks for their studies. “When they reach the third year we always examine them and want to see what they can present practically and also to inspire the young ones to know that after their primary and secondary school education they have other things to pick as their carrier and like fashions events management etc.” Lamwaka said.

After steering the event for the last 12 years from its inception and being the founder, Dr. Abbey Mutumba, a senior lecturer at MUBS says its time he is handing it over to other people for sustainability adding that it’s now a course being studied at Masters level world over. He further says that, their choice to have this brought to arua is to open up peoples thought about what has not been embraced in the region. “We have a campus of our school here and arua has got tourism and hospitality opportunities that people do not know about and we want the public to learn about this before we may start to offer this at our campus here” said Mutumba.

Among some of the activities that took place during the event, there were football, kickboxing, performance by artists, movie portfolio, entertainment franchising and others. The event like for the previous year ended with awards to the partners who support the organization of the day.
