The Ministry of Education and Sports has announced the introduction of seven additional topics to the primary curriculum for the 2025 Music, Dance, and Drama (MDD) performing arts festival.
This development brings the total number of topics to 14, including the previously existing ones.
The newly introduced topics include Road Safety, Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Reproductive Health Research, WASH, and Oral Health, among others.
Enhancing Pupil Performance and Job Creation
According to Amayo Gard, a curriculum analyst with MDD for the West Nile Region, the primary objective of these changes is to enhance pupil performance and foster job creation.
Gard made these remarks while explaining the new topics to MDD teachers at Springs Nursery and Primary School in Arua City.
Collaboration and Implementation
Bako Alima Caroline, Vice Chairperson of the Arua City Head Teachers’ Association, emphasized the importance of cooperation among teachers and head teachers in implementing these new ideas. “We urge both teachers and head teachers to work together to ensure that pupils benefit from these new topics,” Caroline said.
School Participation and Performance
Alioni Albert, the teacher in charge of MDD at Ragem Primary School, expressed optimism about the school’s performance in MDD despite the addition of new topics.
“We hope to continue performing well in MDD, even with the increased number of topics,” Albert said.
Mandatory Participation
Zilly Buza, Senior Inspector of Schools in Arua City, stressed that every school is expected to participate in MDD as stipulated by the Ministry of Education and Sports. “We urge all schools to take part in MDD and ensure that pupils benefit from this program,” Buza said.
The introduction of these new topics is a significant development in the MDD curriculum, aimed at enhancing pupil performance and promoting job creation. With the cooperation of teachers and head teachers, schools can effectively implement these changes and benefit from the program.
