Makerere University Business School (MUBS) has announced a significant milestone with the upgrade of its Arua Campus to faculty status. This development marks a new era for the campus, which has been operating without a faculty since its inception in 2006.
A Longstanding Challenge Addressed
For 19 years, students at the Arua Campus have had to travel to distant locations in search of faculty members for various programs. This upgrade will enable students to access academic expertise locally, enhancing their learning experience and outcomes.
Reactions from Stakeholders
Omagoro Chailaire, the District Education Officer for Arua, emphasized the need for high commitment among stakeholders to mobilize more students to join the campus. "This upgrade is a significant milestone, and we must work together to ensure that it benefits the region as a whole," he said.
Viola Isaburu, a student at the Arua Campus, has welcomed the upgrade and urged her fellow students to work even harder now that they have access to a faculty. "With this new development, we have a great opportunity to excel academically, and I encourage my peers to seize it," she said.
Professor Moses Muhwezi, the Principal of MUBS, noted that there were certain conditions that the campus had to meet before it could be granted faculty status. "While there were expectations that this would happen sooner, we are pleased that we can now offer our students the benefits of having a faculty on campus," he explained.
Rogers Mwesigwa, the Dean of Faculty at MUBS, expressed his hope that, the faculty will benefit many students across the West Nile Region. "This upgrade is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students, and we look forward to serving the region even better," he said.
Conclusion
The upgrade of MUBS Arua Campus to faculty status is expected to have a profound impact on the region's educational landscape. With access to local faculty expertise, students will be able to pursue their academic goals with greater ease, and the campus is poised to become a hub for academic excellence in the region.
