Muni university students protest delayed allowances

Arua
Students of muni university in Arua city have protested demanding the university administration to come out clearly to explain why their allowances are not paid. The students who are studying at the university under government sponsorship on merit say, they have always been deceived over their allowances.
Eight weeks into the semester, the students say they are yet to receive their allowances. This is the money the students always rely on for their feeding, medical care, renting, transport and other personal effects.

The students had what they called a peaceful protest from the university, moving through Ewuata trading center, up to Arua hill roundabout and then back to the university. Some of the students who spoke to radio Pacis said they don’t have money to feed themselves and pay rent. “We have realized that the only way in which the university can understand the need to pay us is by protesting. If the money is not there, they better tell us so that we can go home” one of the students said.

The deputy vice chancellor in charge of academics Professor Simon Anguma called for calm to the issue. “I understand what it means to be a student who lives on allowances, I request you to understand the situation because the delay is due to system failure” a statement which the students refused to agree.
