Muslims in Arua City joined the global Islamic Community in celebrating Eid-Al-Adha 2025, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, on Friday, June 6 as one of the two major Islamic holidays.
Eid-Al-Adha honors the unwavering devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command.
The crescent moon signaling the start of Dhul Hijjah was sighted in Saudi Arabia on May 27, 2025, setting Eid-Al-Adha celebrations therefore June 6.
Sheik Shayid Muhammad Shaban, the Imam of Hijira Mosque under supreme administration asked Muslims to remain peaceful and devote more time for working for the betterment of their well-being.
“I want to wish all the Muslims Happy Eid-Al-Adha celebrations and let us celebrate the day peacefully together with our Christian brothers and sisters and let us enjoy responsible and think about other responsibilities ahead of us,” he said.
Salama Juma, the finance secretary for supreme administration asked the mothers to celebrate the day responsibly and ensure that they nurture their children so that they become responsible children within the communities they live in.
“We as mothers today let us take care of our children and let us not focus too much on the household responsibilities or celebrating Eid forgetting about our children if we want them to grow as responsible children in future, we should at least send the children to the relatives not to loiter at public places and let us celebrate the day with respect as mothers” she said.
Adam Yusuf Juma, the secretary for propagating Islam for Arua City called on Muslims to rise above internal divisions and work together for the unity and development of Islam.
“I encourage all the Muslims to unit in this day as stated by the tradition of Prophet Ibrahim, let us come together because it is day to celebrate with our family, friends so let us not over enjoy and eat to avoid other problems” he said.
Eid al-Adha, also known as the "Festival of Sacrifice," holds profound significance for Muslims in Uganda, just as it does for millions around the world.
