DAILY MONITOR
Muslim leaders in Uganda have announced that Idd -ul Fitr celebrations will be conducted on Friday march 20 following failure to sight the new crescent moon on Wednesday evening as recommended under the Islamic teachings.
Idd –ul Fitr climaxes the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan.
When Idd falls on a Friday, Islamic teachings dictate that Muslims who perform Idd prayers in the morning are free to skip the weekly Juma prayer, but must pray the daily Zuhr afternoon prayer.
According to Dr Sheikh Ziyad Swaleh Lubanga, the director of sharia at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC), national prayers at Gaddafi Mosque will start at 9am and will be led by Sheikh Ramadhan Mubajje, the Mufti of Uganda.
Believers can fast 29 days or 30 days as per the Islamic teachings and last year fasting lasted 29 days.
