Joseph Odama, an aspirant for Member of Parliament for Vurra in Arua district has vowed to advocate for effective services delivery if elected into power in the next five years.
Odama is confident about representing his constituency, underlining several challenges facing the constituency including poor representation, inefficient services delivery, youth unemployment among others that he say are top on agenda if elected into power.
“Vurra constituency where I come from we have seen a lot of gaps of representation in the sense of the person that is there, is supposed to be taking the voices of people on ground present it on floor of parliament, so that the gaps in terms of services delivery on ground can be looked at by the central government. If you look at the road infrastructure the road network is there, but how has it been upgraded you can move in our community and rarely see any upgraded road.”
“Energy in terms of electricity Vurra has electricity connections but the access to electricity has been an issue. I am going to advocate for better service delivery by fighting corruption what belongs to the people must be for the people,” he added.
After picking nomination form from the Ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) to contest as Member of Parliament, Odama is advocating for a people centered leadership.
“We have lower local government councilors who are supposed to be on ground to identify what challenges are there in the communities, we have district councilors who are there to bring what is on ground to the district level, so as a member of parliament you must also be able to sit in the district council to understand challenges of all corners in the constituency and be able to present it for action,” he noted.
Joseph Odama joins a list of journalists vying for political positions in the coming elections. Having worked with the national broadcaster UBC Television as a reporter, he is now aspiring for Member of Parliament for Vurra constituency.
