Syova Seeds Uganda Limited has officially launched new high-yielding, disease-tolerant hybrid varieties of tomatoes and green peppers—Captain F1 and Gallant F1—aimed at benefiting farmers across Uganda, particularly in the West Nile region.
The launch event held at Le Tsuba Grand Hotel in Arua City was attended by over 600 farmers, agricultural officers, extension workers, agro-input dealers, and community facilitators.
Johnson Mugisha, the Sales and Marketing Manager Syova Seeds Uganda Limited, emphasized the company’s commitment to boosting agricultural production by providing quality seeds, modern farming technology and effective chemicals.
“We are committing ourselves to make sure that we supply quality inputs to farmers. In the many years, we have been supplying inputs to farmers and we are not about to disappoint farmers but to ensure we bring good technologies, better varieties and good chemicals that will increase and boost agriculture production and productivity” he said.
Dr. Willy Nguma, the district production officer and chief guest during the launch, urged farmers in West Nile to cultivate these new varieties to reduce reliance on other regions for vegetables like tomatoes, thus encouraging local food security and market independence.
“We can have this new products produced from West Nile region here and this calls for collective responsibility from all of us. I want to say that Syova come timely and is part of the node in value chain for farmers, I therefore advice farmers to buy these products from agro-input dealers” Nguma appealed.
Patrick Enaku, a prominent farmer and test grower from Wole Farm in Maracha District, shared his positive experience with the new hybrids and encouraged fellow farmers to adopt these varieties for better productivity.
“One thing I like about these two products Syova has brought for us is that, it is very easy in nursery bed management. Within two weeks you find all the seedlings are uniform. Each of the plants I had put for me 70 fruits. I think captain f1 and gallant f1 are the way to go” he said.
The new hybrid varieties are expected to significantly enhance farm outputs, improve disease resistance, and increase farmers’ incomes, ultimately transforming the agricultural landscape in the region.
This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernize farming practices, promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen local food systems in Uganda.
