Seven people, including security operatives are nursing injuries in Moyo general hospital following a scuffle that ensued on 17th July, 2025 between the supporters of Dr. Lagu Charles and incumbent Aleru Tom Aza the area Member of Parliament for West Moyo constituency during the NRM parliamentary primary elections.
The incident occurred after supporters of both candidates started pelting stones at the security officers who were manning the NRM offices during the tallying process.
The police therefore responded by firing teargas and live bullets that resulted in the said injuries.
Dravu Michael, one of the affected persons stated that, at around 9:20pm, he realized bleeding after being injured by unknown persons.
“I sustained an injury around my chick close to the left side of the eye. When I was bleeding, it was one of the political aspirant for the seat local council 5 chairman who helped me,” he stated.
Bako Roselyn one of the supporters to the aspirants attributed the incident to election malpractice influenced by some politicians.
“To make things worse, our local council 5 chairman is having a hand in the mess according to my findings. What have we done as people of Madi especially in Moyo?” She complained.
Superintendent of police, Asea Collins, the public relations officer for North West Nile region noted that, several vendors handling food in the streets encountered losses during the incident and condemned action saying, such hooliganism is uncalled for especially when candidates from same party are campaigning and facing off each other in elections.
