NUP SUSPENDS PARTY STRUCTURE FORMATION IN WEST NILE, ALLEGES SECURITY INTERRUPTION

The National Unity Platform (NUP) party has suspended her party structure formation activities in some districts in West Nile region following alleged interruption by the security operatives.

NUP party in a letter dated August 15, 2024 wrote to Uganda Police notifying them of their party activity to establish mobilization task force committees countrywide copied to all regional police commanders which copy was received by the office of RPC West Nile on 04 June 2025.

The NUP structure formation activity that commenced in September 2024 in other parts of the country in currently moving on in West Nile region after hiccups in others districts such as Nwoya, Amuru and so on.

Speaking to the media in Arua city on Monday June 9, 2025, Asega Habib Jogo the National Unity Platform NUP party deputy secretary for mobilization in charge of Northern Uganda revealed that their activities in Madi Okollo was stopped, alleging that the DPC is partisan.

“I want to report that the DPC of Madi Okollo is partisan if he’s not partisan then he is under influence of some politicians in Madi Okollo, today we were supposed to be in Madi Okollo establishing our party structure but we were stopped, we have postponed the rest because we need to sort out this with Uganda Police Force, they should tell us whether they don’t have powers to do their work,” Asega exposed.

Equally, Moses Kanabi the National organizing secretary for National Unity platform party accused the security officials for taking the law into their hands. “other political parties are establishing structures but when it comes to the national Unity platform, they overzealous DPCs, RDCs and DISOs are taking the law into their hands to stop our activities, we call upon these people to respect the law, allow us to continue with our activities,” Dr. Kanabi faulted.

But Madi Okollo district Police Commander SP. Twesigye Aggrey in response indicted the National Unity platform party for failing to comply with the guidelines given by the inspectorate of police. “The matter is about fulfilling the guideline, they didn’t all the guidelines which are supposed to be fulfilled they know the guideline and everything, so they were differed so they are getting ready to fulfill the guidelines as instructed by the IGP so that next time better, nobody is stopping them from having their meeting so long as thy follow the guideline,” SP. Twesigye responded. 

Among the districts where the NUP party structure formation activities are suspended include, Terego, Yumbe, Maracha Adjumani and Moyo among others.
