It’s a beehive of activities at most schools in Arua city as teachers and parents are seen crossing roads to have the new senior one students registered in their new secondary school.
With schools like Arua public secondary school, Arua ss and Bishop Angelo Tarantino memorial ss registering a good turn up on the first day.
Nuru Abdulla the deputy headtecaher at Arua SS says the first week of reporting will be dedicated to orientation to help them grasp and understand their new environment.
“We started on a good note the turn up is okay we have registered about 260 students so far 140 reported with slightly more number of girls than the boys they are already in class and this week we have scheduled for orientation, it’s going on very well.”
Atiku Jackson the deputy head teacher academics at Bishop Angelo Tarantino memorial SS though the registration kicked off normally, more learners were enrolled the previous year compared to this year.
“Those who have picked the forms compared to the previous year the difference is not much but there is still some gap there because last year and the other years the number was a bit more for the case of this year the registration the not reached that level but we are hopeful it can push up to there.”

Maxwell Dramadri the head teacher Arua public secondary school reveals that out 642 learners given by the ministry, 264 turned up on the first day, he calls for collaborated efforts by the parents in the face of the competent based curriculum.
“We have the lower secondary school curriculum in place, the competence based curriculum there is a lot more that needs the parents support for instance we have project works here which at times is costly and the school does support them by giving the materials and these materials the funding is purely the parents responsibility ours is to guide more especially do the school is supposed to do.”

“When in entered in school I felt happy, excited inside I said this is me in secondary, I wanted to be like everyone in secondary, the children were so welcoming and the environment is amazing it’s not like my primary school.”
Angubo Vincent a now a student at Arua ss shares his aspiration for joining a secondary school.
“My plan was to join secondary I really appreciate, I know we are going to put more efforts and get better performance in this school and if I do well in secondary I want join an army.”
Senior One students in Uganda are scheduled to report for the first term on March 2, 2026 with some schools dedicating the first week to registration and orientation while others plan to start lesson son the next day.
