Police in Morobi village zone two Palorinya refugee settlement in Obongi district during the voice of the voiceless program organized by Radio Pacis sensitised the community on the traffic rules and regulations. This follows cases of road accidents in the settlement.
Detective constable Samuel Odongo the OC Morobi police post said, majority of the people in the settlement are riding motorcycles which are in poor condition hence fueling the high accident rates in the settlement.
“Before you turn your motorcycle or any machine on, you first need to check its condition, if it’s in a good mechanical condition which can take you where you are going,” Odongo said.
He added that most of the motorcycles in the settlement are in dangerous mechanic condition which are not supposed to be on the road.
Meanwhile Patrick Loguran a resident of Luru village said, there is need for the traffic department to educate the Bodaboda riders on road signs and traffic rules and regulation.
“The traffic department needs to be brought in the settlement so that they can sensitise the Bodaboda riders on road signs to reduce the high rate of accidents,” Patrick noted.
Whereas Idraku Loms Paul the LC one chairperson Keligo village in Morobi parish Itula Sub County said the accident cases are not only happening within the refugee community but even among the host as he blamed drunkenness and over speeding from the riders for the rampant cases.
“Normally, these riders drink while riding and the speed at which they are riding is not good, people ride because they want to fill proud that they can ride to just attract girls hence causing accidents” he noted.
