Radio Pacis has delivered a total of 18,000 tree seedlings to institutions and individuals this year during its ongoing “Go Green Campaign,” launched in 2018 to promote environmental conservation in northern Uganda.
The initiative aims to mobilize communities and institutions to address the adverse effects of climate change, such as droughts, unpredictable rainfall, soil infertility, and declining water sources, which negatively impact agriculture, food security, and water availability.
Central to the campaign is tree planting, which restores degraded landscapes, improves air quality, and supports biodiversity.
Radio Pacis collaborates with local institutions and communities, including schools, to foster environmental awareness and action.
A recent notable activity involved Radio Pacis delivering 410 pine seedlings to St Kizito Ediofe Orphans Primary School.
During the distribution, marketing and public relations manager of Radio Pacis, Pariyo Silver reiterated the station’s commitment to environmental protection.
“St Kizito is our neighboring school and also a green school much interested in planting trees through their learners and the school administration as their green color, we know they have planted a lot of trees ranging from fruit and wood spices making the school look green and beautiful, they have a space they have identified to plant more trees that’s why we brought for them this seedlings and we are very proud to work with such institutions as Radio Pacis” he said.
While Kennedy Atibuni, the head teacher of St Kizito Ediofe Orphans Primary School, praised Radio Pacis for promoting conservation efforts. The school plans to involve learners in planting and caring for the trees, fostering environmental responsibility among learners.
“I want to appreciate Radio Pacis for embracing environmental protection initiatives by giving us tree seedlings which has aligned with our program of promoting green zone within the school environment which aims to promote learning and environmental protection within the school environment whereby children will be able to learn and we believe when the children will be going home the apply the knowledge,” he said.
Radio Pacis’s Go Green Campaign serves as a vital effort to combat climate issues, promote sustainable practices, and educate the community and youth on the importance of environmental stewardship.
By engaging schools and local institutions, the campaign aims to create lasting ecological awareness and action, ultimately contributing to the region’s ecological restoration and resilience against climate change impacts.
