Arua Diocese Media Center, Radio Pacis, has received widespread praise from Arua City Council and the community of Oli Catholic Parish for its impactful “Go Green” campaign, a key initiative promoting environmental conservation across the West Nile region.
The station partnered with Arua City Council and St. Charles Lwanga Oli Parish to conduct a street clean-up exercise starting from Adalafu Chapel, Krab, and surrounding areas of Oli Parish.
Walter Nyamua, the campaigns coordinator, emphasized that the clean-up exercise aligns with this year’s go-green campaign theme of “taking care of the environment,” urging local leaders to actively participate.
“If you remove away cavera’s, plastics and other solid wastes the place around you can actually look clean and that is what we deed, showing the community of Oli catholic parish symbolically what they can do about waste management. I am happy that the community was very happy and appreciative. We now challenge them for sustainability by humbly requesting the local council 1 chairpersons to maintain the cleanness we have started” he said.
The campaign actively addresses climate change, deforestation, and plastic pollution through mass tree distributions and community sensitization efforts.
Msgr. Premiums Asega, parish priest of Oli Catholic Parish, expressed appreciation for Radio Pacis’s choice of Oli for this year’s Social Communication Sunday, viewing the clean-up as a wake-up call for residents to improve sanitation.
“It was both theory and practice, it is like teaching by doing which was a big lesson for our people of Oli, although we did not collet all the plastic wastes but at least the message has through to the community. I want to thank and appreciate Radio Pacis for coming up with this initiative because they kept on teaching our people” he explained.
Collaborating with partners like Arua City Council, Radio Pacis has established dedicated plastic collection points and bins across Oli, Adalafu, and Arivu chapels to combat plastic pollution.

Favorite Edeti, the Arua City Environment Officer in-charge of Ayivu Division, lauded Radio Pacis for its support in government efforts to combat climate change.
“We as government welcome such initiatives so much because it helps us a lot to reach out to the community, strengthens our relationship with the community and other organizations like Radio Pacis. We so much encourage such activities because it helps us a lot most times” he appreciated.
The station also uses specialized radio programming and educational campaigns targeting both adults and youth to promote eco-friendly habits and sustainable living.
Over the years, Radio Pacis has distributed tens of thousands of tree seedlings—including mahogany, teak, and fruit trees—to local residents, parishes such as Nyio Catholic Parish, educational institutions, and individual families, aiming to restore degraded forest cover and foster environmental stewardship.
The “Go Green” campaign illustrates a comprehensive community-driven effort to promote environmental awareness, practical conservation actions, and sustainable development in the West Nile region.
