The road users of Onduparaka-Andelizu-Mangasaba road in arua city, are raising concerns over the quality of works done in an ongoing road rehabilitation project on one of the city roads.
The 8.1 kilometers road, awarded to Consytech Limited in 2022, as a class 2 feeder road upgrade has had issues arising from the quality of grading as several road users complain.
The project, valued at approximately 596 million Ugandan shillings, was supposed to be completed within six months commenced last year but has face d a lot of procurement delays.
At this point, the contractor is left with only three weeks to complete the work but a lot is still pending in regards to quality and quantity if works to be done.
William Draziga, a road user voiced his frustrations over the drainage blockage caused by the marram spread on the road making it difficult for his customers to pass.
“I see this road is not good. It has blocked my customers because the water that has logged here has made it hard for my customers to cross to my side and the marram poured here has blocked the water flow totally. I’m very disappointed,” he said.
Rose Ayikoru, a road user expressed the challenges the road users face while using the road.
“The way they dumped this marram is not okay. It has narrowed the road now making people to get accidents. Let this road be worked on again. I am not pleased with this road works at all,” she said in annoyance.
Milton ‘Ba’deyo, a boda boda rider operating on this road appreciated the work done by the ministry of works only that the marram is not of the standard which is needed to be worked on again.
“This road work is good, but the quality of the marram is not okay because when it rains even when you are walking the whole surface will be slippery and it makes us suffer too much. This really needs a new marram” he emphasised.
In response, Hon Malon Avutia the mayor of Ayivu Division, acknowledged the concerns and assured the road users that they will work on the road.
“The community is good but the Calvert will be re-aligned, that is what we agreed. issue number two is that, the contractor will bring first class marram, prepared properly, about 4 inches and also compact it until when the road will be commissioned so it’s still under construction” he said.
In a visit to the project site, from observations made the contractor was nowhere to be seen.
