Reverend Father Gilbert Obira, the curate of St. Daniel Comboni, Etele Catholic Parish, has urged students of Hawa Secondary School in Moyo district to be evangelizers of the Word of God rather than focusing on earthly desires.
He made this call during the handover ceremony of the Young Christian Students Association (YCS) at the school.
In his homily, Reverend Father Obira challenged the students to resist worldly temptations and instead dedicate themselves to spreading the Gospel. “You don’t want to die for God, you only want something that makes people remember you as rich. Because of that, you push the Word of God away and lean toward worldly desires. But once you become worldly, even going to church becomes a struggle. When you receive the Word of God, use it to evangelize, to praise God, and to glorify His name,” he urged.
The Guest of Honour, Adebuga Zaman, called on the outgoing leaders to continue upholding the spirit of leadership. “Now that you have handed over the mantle to the new leaders, I encourage you to reflect on the experiences and lessons you gained in office. Let those experiences guide your future and inspire you in all trials ahead,” he said.
Meanwhile, the outgoing section leader, Asobasi Daniel, encouraged the new leaders to build team spirit in order to achieve their goals. “I request the new leaders to work on our challenges and recommendations. The work of the termites should always be at the back of our minds. Let’s work as a team to see YCS progress in Hawa section and in the Moyo Vicariate at large,” he appealed.
Representing the Head Teacher, Koimoi Collins reaffirmed the school administration’s commitment to supporting the movement. “It is our humble request that you work with us in all your plans. As a school, we are ready to support you as we have always done,” he pledged.
