Six NRM members of Parliament from Lango sub region have lost the just concluded party primary elections.
They are; Chairperson Lango Parliamentary Group Judith Alyek, the Kole district woman MP, Kwania’s Tonny Ayo who is also the chairperson Parliamentary Committee of ICT, and Christine Akello aka Gwog-adako, the Erute North MP who lost to Patrick Ongom alias Aregedeng, a former district councilor.
The others are Kyoga Constituency MP James Olobo Dubai who lost to a businessman Peter Okodo, Moses Ogwal Goli, the Dokolo North area MP who lost to Joseph Jons Ogwal, a former engineer with UEDCL, and Dorcus Acen, the Alebtong District woman MP who lost her flag to Dr. Mercy Lakisa, a dentist- turned politician.
The heated race saw Alyek garnering only 11,05 votes, losing to Sandra Aceng Odong a former civil servant attached to Dokolo District Local Government who got 20,215 votes while Ayo lost to his former personal assistant Tony Eron having scored 479 votes less of Eron’s 7,732.
The other incumbent like Felix Okot Ogong of Dokolo South, the Otuke East MP Julius Achon, Otuke County MP Paul Omara, Otuke Woman MP Susan Abeja, Dr Samuel Opio Acuti of Kole North, Amolatar Woman MP Dr Agnes Atim Apea, and Apac Woman MP Betty Awor Engola retained their flags.
Okot got 12,408 votes against his closest opponent Denis Ekoch who got 3,626 votes. The other candidates in the race included Richard Obura who got 295 votes, George Omoding 140 and Leo Odur 27.
Omara Paul garnered 9,208 votes against Richard Omara Awio, a two- time contestant who got 4,890, former Otuke District Chairperson Bosco Odongo Obote got 1,255 whereas David Obong Oleke, the former Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Water and Environment got only 431. Omara Awio has however, promised to contest as an independent candidate in the coming general election.
The Otuke woman MP race saw the incumbent Susan Abeja scoring 21,437, against the former legislator Silvia Akello, who garnered 13,665. The other candidates Betty Angom and Stella Amony got 1,025 and 277 votes respectively.
Achon aka the boy who runs scored 13,258 votes, defeating his district LC5 Chairperson Francis Abola who got 8,400.
In the neighboring Nwoya District, incumbent Nwoya District Woman Legislator Judith Acan Peace Onen lost the bid to hold the NRM party flag. Acan garnered 3,706 votes, while Christine Lanyero Awany polled 7,370 votes. Tina Vicky Laker trailed with 208 votes.
