The Police in the West Nile region are actively investigating two separate mob-related incidents that occurred on September 14, 2025, in the districts of Zombo and Koboko.
The first case involved the death of a 19-year-old male, Awekonimungu, who was found abandoned in Mayera Cell, Dwanga Ward, Paidha Town Council, Zombo District.
The second case involved Alegesi, a 40-year-old businessman from Lomutu Cell, Isoko Ward, Koboko District. In both incidents, mobs reportedly took the law into their own hands, leading to the deaths of these individuals.
Upon receiving reports of the incidents, police officials, led by Deputy Inspector of Police Otukende Richard, responded promptly to the scene. Their investigations are being coordinated by the homicide department and scene of crime officers (SOCO) where six suspects have already been arrested in connection with the cases to aid in the ongoing investigations.
SP Jimmy Anguyo, the Police Public Relations Officer of West Nile region, confirmed these details to Radio Pacis during an interview and he assured the public that authorities are committed to uncovering the motives behind the mob actions and bringing those responsible to justice.
”In Zombo district we have arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of a 19 year old man and in a related incident in Koboko district we have also arrested 4 suspects in connection with the murder of a 40 year old business man, all this happened yesterday 14/09/2025. All these murders are related to mob-actions and other people are still under investigations,” he said.
The Police have emphasized the importance of following proper legal procedures and are urging the public not to take the law into their own hands, as this could jeopardize justice and add chaos to the situation.
Meanwhile, Anguyo cautioned community members against vigilantism, emphasizing that only through official channels can justice be served effectively without the public taking law into their hands.
“We strongly condemn such barbaric act of the public taking the law into their hands, we condemn that incase of anything the matter must be reported to police but not taking the law into their hands,” he added.
This situation highlights ongoing concerns about mob justice and the challenges faced by law enforcement in maintaining peace and order.
According to him, the police in West Nile region are working diligently to resolve these cases and prevent similar incidents in the future, urging calm and cooperation from the community during this period of legal inquiry.
