South Sudanese students taking refuge in Ugandan settlements are being urged to utilize their opportunity on leaving in Uganda for studies.
This appeal came during the south Sudanese student’s day in Yumbe district involving two schools Yumbe secondary school and Aringa secondary school that came together with the aim of uniting all the south Sudanese students.
Speaking during the function at Aringa secondary school, Umba Peter, head of field office CECI, encouraged the south Sudanese students to put their attention in education.
“You should not think that it’s a curse, when you are a refugee. First of all, you did not chose to run away from your country. It’s something that had pushed you out. So, while you are here as south Sudanese or refugees, you unitize the available opportunity for studies” Peter noted.
He added that, he has heard of people who got the opportunity of studying through scholarship and some of them fail to get in their own country.
“As you are here struggle for the opportunity, tap it, go back to south Sudan like a great leader” he added.
Meanwhile Maleah Muka Otim the RWC 3 Chairperson for zone one appealed to the south Sudanese’s students to stand firm in times of hardship.
“Stand firm. I known most of you are coming without pocket money. There is nothing in the pocket monies, but, focus and pray to God” Otim encouraged.
Luwanyi Jadribo the patron for south Sudanese students in Aringa SS appreciated the south Sudanese for their discipline.
“On several occasions, South Sudanese students have been seen as disciplined students among the nationals. One thing I like so much from them is from the issues of discipline they are first class, and from Yumbe secondary school I was told it’s the same story that the indiscipline has greatly improved” the patron said.
Thomas Maliamungu the secretary in the office of the RWC 3 Bidibidi encouraged the students to exhibit the same discipline.
“Continue with that spirit. There is a saying that, “when you act worth discipline the answer will be success”. So stick to that,” Thomas said.
He encouraged the refugee students not to take part in strikes and always respect the elders, teachers and parents.
