STAKE HOLDERS CALL FOR EQUAL EDUCATION AMONGST CHILDREN IN WEST NILE

The people in the West Nile sub region are called upon to fully consider the education of children with disabilities like they give to the non-disabled children.

This follows reports circulating in social media that, four schools in Gulu City have purportedly declined to offer a top 2024 PLE star a placement to pursue his secondary studies over his physical disability.

Sam Feta in Arua City says, disability is not inability, rallying people in the region not to mistreat persons with disability in such a manner.

“Sometimes when children with disabilities fall sick like that, people wish for them to die quickly and they think they are sources of burden. They end up locking them inside and sometime when they are sexually abused, no one stands for them,” said Feta.

In a conference, the Parish priest of Yoro in Terego district Rev. Fr Samuel Orionzi with a great concern noted that, “for example when somebody doesn’t talk and is crippled, they leave such a person, stating that, such a person is useless and can’t support him or herself.”

There are over 240 million children living with disabilities worldwide, many of them have no access to education – an injustice that Humanity Inclusion is committed to overcoming.

But Filbert Azamuke, a resident of Komite ward in Arua City reasons that, in many situations, children with disabilities have no access not only to education but also to other services.

Inclusive education recognizes the capacity of everyone to learn including persons with disabilities and acknowledges that, each person has a different strength, requirements and learning styles.
