The tragic road accident involving staff and students of Muni University which occurred early morning along the Pakwach Nebbi highway, has left three fatalities and two critical survivors.
The incident took place around 1:00am on September 27, 2025, when a Muni University double-cabin vehicle, driven by Kennedy Acidri, collided with a Sino Truck belonging to the China 18 Railway Construction Company.
The vehicle was transporting five Muni university staff members and students from Kampala back to Arua City.
The deceased include Reverend Canon Patrick Acema, the Diocesan Chairman of the House of Clergy and chaplain of Muni University Advent chapel, Washington Opio, the university’s sports tutor, and Kennedy Acidri, the driver.
Their bodies were taken to Pakwach Health Centre IV for post-mortem. While the two survivors, Bruno Oriba and Victor Enayo, sustained critical injuries and were initially treated at Pakwach Health Centre IV before being referred to Lacor Hospital for further management.
SP Jimmy Anguyo, the police public relations officer of West Nile region, confirmed to Radio Pacis that the vehicle rammed into a parked SINO Truck along the highway during the accident.
“On an unfortunate note this morning a team of five Muni University staff were travelling from Kampala from an official duty, upon reaching Alwi in Nebbi district, the vehicle they were travelling in had a head on collision with a road construction company truck and out of five occupants on board, three staff members of the university died on spot and the two survivors were rushed for medical attention at Pakwach health center IV, more updates will follow later, may the souls of the deceased’s rest in eternal peace,” he prayed.
Police confirmed that investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
The university community mourns the loss of dedicated staff members, especially Rev. Canon. Patrick Acema, who was also a prominent religious leader and brother to a former Arua district health officer Paul Bishop Drileba who was murdered by a mob in Ajia sub-county.
As investigations continue, the incident underscores the importance of road safety and vigilant driving to prevent future tragedies.
