The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Party’s Election Disputes Tribunal is set to commence hearings for 211 petitions filed against the newly elected NRM parliamentary flag bearers at the NRM party headquarters in Kampala.
Tribunal Chairman John Musiime announced that starting Tuesday, 29 July 2025, the tribunal will begin hearing the petitions. He urged the accused candidates to file their defenses, while petitioners are expected to present five witnesses during the hearing sessions, along with their legal representatives.
Out of the 211 petitions filed, 20 are from the West Nile region.
According to the court schedule, on 29th July 2025 at 9:00 am, the tribunal will open sessions by hearing the petition by Afidra Olema Ronald against Ogama Ali Ismail while on 30th July 2025 at 9:00 AM it will listen to the petition by Dr. Olega Ashraf Noah against Ezama Siraj Bran, 31st July 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM: Multiple cases scheduled throughout the day, including Debo Ronald versus Atima Lee Jackson Buti, Dr. Charles Lagu and others versus Hon. Alero Tom Aza, and Baku David Victor Adrale versus Lenia Charity Kevin of Arua District, among others.
While on 1st August 2025 from 9:00 AM: Cases such as Dramviku Eric Sabit versus Angudru Moses of Terego West, Etuuka Isaac Joakino versus Drito Andi Martin of Upper Madi, and Feta Geofrey versus Tiyo William of Ayivu East.
On 2nd August 2025 beginning at 9:00 AM: Several cases, including those involving Hon. Moriku Joyce Kaducu and Acamfua Topista, Tokoru Susan versus Tiyo William Taylor Ayiivu East, and Taban Aate Sharifah versus Ropani Sauda Woman MP flag bearer Koboko District.
3rd August 2025 at 9:00 AM: Cases including Hon. Joyo Harriet versus Maneno Zumura, Obongi Woman, MP Asiku Elly Elias versus Musa Noah Koboko North Constituency, Aduma Yeero Justus versus Dr. Tom Aliti Candia Maracha East, Olar Ronald Alfred versus Hashim Sulaiman Nebbi Municipality, Musema Mudasiri Bruce and 5 others versus Alioni York Odria Aringa South.
The court will finalize on 4th August 2025 starting at 9:00 AM hearing Cases of Lematia John versus Onzima Phiona Ayivu West, Oryema Denis Olyeko versus Isaac Ismail Otimgiu and EC Padyere County Nebbi district — Omito Robert versus Berochan Epiphany Jonam County, Pakwach —Oryema Denis Olyeko versus Isaac Ismail Otimgiu and Omito Robert versus Berochan Epiphany packwachi district.
On independent Opinion Retired Commissioner Peter Dibele highlighted concerns about malpractice during the electoral process, including open voter bribery and vote-rigging, which the NRM party should address before the upcoming general elections.
“We witnessed a lot of irregularities and most pronounced for NRM to take concern of is the recruitment process of the registrars, the qualifications and ability to resist bribes. There were a lot of monies used inform of bribes.” Dibele stated.
The 211 NRM election petitions are expected to be concluded within a week.
