The newly elected leaders from the West Nile sub-region have been urged to unite and prioritize the establishment of the Nebbi Industrial Park once they assume office, with less than a month remaining before they are sworn in.
This call for unity highlights the importance of “collaboration,” “coordination,” and “collective responsibility” in driving regional transformation and ensuring that key development projects are not delayed by political differences.
Industrial parks play a vital role in development by providing well-planned, infrastructure-ready zones that attract foreign direct investment (FDI), stimulate local industries, and create employment opportunities.
They are often associated with “economic growth,” “job creation,” “innovation hubs,” and “value addition,” all of which contribute to sustainable national progress and improved livelihoods for communities.
The Deputy Speaker of the 11th Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among leaders to ensure such projects are implemented effectively.
His remarks underscore the need for “strategic planning,” “policy alignment,” and “efficient implementation” to turn development blueprints into tangible results that benefit citizens.
Meanwhile, the Minister of State for Privatization and Investment, Evelyn Anite, noted that, Nebbi is not the only area earmarked for industrial development and that all such initiatives require collective support to be realized.
At the local level, the LC5 Chairperson of Madi Okollo District, Drabe Ismail, called for increased mineral exploration in the region as a strategy to attract more tourists and investors.
The Government of Uganda identified 25 industrial parks for development between 2021 and 2026.
This initiative aims to accelerate industrialization, promote balanced regional development, and enhance the country’s export capacity. It also reflects priorities like “infrastructure expansion,” “regional equity,” “industrial transformation,” and “global competitiveness,” positioning Uganda as an emerging player in regional and international trade.
