The Uganda People’s Defense Force UPDF officers on Tuesday September 9, 2025, fired 13 gun salutes in accordance of respect to one of Uganda’s longest serving army officer Maj. Gen. Hussein Adda.
Late Rt. Maj. Gen. Hussein Adda the former commandant of Bombo army Barracks who served in the army for 52 year after joining Uganda’s army in 1963 at the age of 17 years underwent basic military training in Jinja, a start of his career till 2018 when he retired from the army.
Serving in the army under the leadership of the different heads of state, Late Rtd. Maj. Gen. Hussein Adda who was a known officer to the then president late Gen. Tito Okello Lutwa joined the National Resistance Army NRA of president Museveni in 1986 after his release from the prison in 1950s.
In his message read to the mourners during the Janaza prayer in Arua city on Tuesday by Gen. Otema Awany, the chief of defense force Gen. Muhoozi kaneirugaba pronounced late Rt. Maj. Gen. Hussein Adda as a national leader with exceptional performance to the community.
“Rtd. Maj. Gen. Hussein has been a national leader whose exceptional performance and commitment resilience and obedience earned him a respect from all his seniors and even subordinates,” Lt. Gen. Awany reported.
Equally, Huda Oleru the state minister for defense and veteran affair who was also the chief mourner extolled the late Rt. Maj. Gen. Hussein Adda as a hero who stood for peace in West Nile.
“Aerobic was a peace unit formed by the Generals in West Nile when they realized that West Nile was in a lot of scatters and one of the key initiators of aerobic is late Rtd. Maj. Gen. Adda, therefore today in West Nile when we are peaceful, when we are celebrating, the general we are burying today played a pivotal role,” Hon. Min. Oleru reiterated.
