The chairperson of the West Nile Kony war victims association has vowed to continue demanding compensation for the 1,102 kony war victims who lost their money and lives during the 20 year Kony Insurgency.
After the 14 days ultimatum of meeting the president coming to an end, the association has added more days to march to the statehouse.
Matua Alex the Chairperson of the Kony war victims association gives an update on their next move towards achieving their goal of being compensated.
“Early next week we are walking to state house this is what I want to tell you openly before the president comes we are walking to state house, we want to meet him there before he comes, we have only Monday or Tuesday this is the way forward,” Matua revealed.
However he also shared some of the legal processes they have been going through for them to be compensated.
“When they came to Arua they met me in my office in onduparaka it was in 22nd November 2021, I called all the members they interacted with them, they verified all their documents and submitted all the details to the permanent secretary ministry of defense, it is defense paying us. MI went happily they gave good recommendation to permanent secretary defense. If the president say you pay this people where is the obstacle coming from you?” he questioned.
Hon Atima Lee the Member of Parliament Arua central division, during the burial ceremony of Maj. Gen. Hussein Adda at Arua Primary grounds re-echoed the need for compensating the kony war victims.
“I request you extend our humble request and appeal to His Excellency to come and meet the people of West Nile in regards to compensation of the war victims as he did to Lango, Teso and Acholi so that Northern Uganda can be complete,” Atima requested.
According to the West Nile Kony War Victims Association, the victims demand 99.9 billion Shillings compensation from the government after incurring injuries and loses during the kony war.
