GULU CITY,
Hundreds of women from different churches across the Acholi Sub-region gathered at Acholi Inn hotel in Gulu City on Saturday 20th June 2026 for the Winning Woman Conference 2026, an event organized by Spirit-Filled International Ministry from Kampala.
The conference, held under the theme “A Winning Woman,” focused on empowering women in leadership, business, family life, and spiritual growth.
Speaking during the event, Pastor Joly Laker of Spirit-Filled International Ministry said the conference was designed to help women discover and fulfill their God-given calling while equipping them with skills to excel in various aspects of life.
She noted that many women possess unique gifts and callings but often fail to pursue them. According to her, the conference was intended to inspire women to identify their purpose and actively serve God in their communities.
Pastor Laker also challenged women to change their mindset regarding financial responsibility within marriage. She observed that many women depend entirely on their husbands for financial support, yet God calls women to be helpers and contributors in building strong families.
“One of the issues I have consistently addressed is the belief among many women that men should be their sole source of income. Women should also see themselves as contributors and partners in building their families financially. Marriage should not be based on financial gain but on God’s purpose and calling,” she said.
She further encouraged women to live according to biblical principles, emphasizing that women have an important role in transforming families and communities through faith, hard work, and Godly character.

Pastor Jolly Laker of Spirit filled international ministries waving to the Christian on her arrival at the conference hall in Acholi inn.
The Chairperson of the Central Organizing Committee for the conference and Secretary of the National Fellowship of Born-Again Churches in Acholi, Rev. Margret Aciro, said the conference was organized partly to address challenges faced by women in Northern Uganda following more than two decades of armed conflict.
According to Rev. Aciro, the prolonged conflict left many women traumatized and exposed to various forms of violence, making such empowerment programs necessary.
“When women are taught and empowered, they are better equipped to support their families, pray for their husbands and children, and address challenges such as domestic violence and trauma. This conference was brought to help women understand how to handle these challenges through faith and practical guidance,” she said.
Rev. Aciro added that God is the source of wealth, health, development, peace, and unity, emphasizing that these blessings can be achieved through prayer and a closer relationship with God.
She also commended the large turnout, saying it demonstrated that women recognize the value of spiritual and personal development initiatives.

One of the participants, Ross Atim from Gulu City, described the conference as life-changing, saying it had strengthened her faith and equipped her with knowledge that she intends to share with other women in her community.
“I will share the Word of God and the encouragement I have received with fellow women. Many women are facing challenges, but if we trust God and remain united in faith, we can build peaceful families and raise children who know and respect God,” Atim said.
Another participant, Cecelia Aber from Omoro District, said the conference had strengthened the faith of women while helping them better understand their responsibilities in marriage and business.
She noted that the teachings provided practical guidance on how women can excel in their personal lives, families, and economic activities.
Several key sessions were conducted during the conference. Pastor Joly Laker led a session on inspiring women to walk in victory, purpose, faith, holiness, leadership, and the power of the Holy Spirit, drawing lessons from Proverbs 24:16.
Mrs. Eliot Janet facilitated a session on building strong marriages and healthy families, focusing on love, respect, forgiveness, and lasting covenant relationships. The discussion was based on Mark 10:9 and Ephesians 5:21–33.
Another session focused on business and entrepreneurship, encouraging women to pursue excellence in business through wisdom, integrity, diligence, and faith. The session was led by Deaconess Mama Santa.
Organizers expressed hope that the conference would continue to inspire women across the region to become agents of positive change in their families, churches, and communities.
