St. Martin Comboni Missionaries Palorinya on October 24, 2025, graduated 30 youths from both refugee and host communities after completing a three-month hands-on skills training program.
The trainees acquired skills in bakery and catering, hairdressing and salon management, as well as welding and fabrication, with support from the Lutheran World Federation (LWF).
On behalf of St. Martin Comboni, Brother Okollo Lawrence commended the graduates for choosing the right path, saying it will add value to their lives. “I have seen in you a fundamental transformation in knowledge, mindset, identity, and even physically. This will shape you into a better version of yourself,” he said.
He added that the graduates are now ready to face the world and find jobs that will help them earn a living.
Wani Gilbert, who represented the graduates, expressed gratitude to the partners for their commitment to empowering the youth. “At this moment, I want to say I am very grateful for what LWF has done for us. We are so happy, and all the students here appreciate this opportunity,” Wani said.
Representing the parents, Robert Milla urged the graduates to put their skills into practice. “On behalf of the parents, I want to say thank you. You came here for a reason—to learn. The skills you have acquired should not go to waste; don’t relax or abandon them,” he encouraged.
Dramundu Anthony Moga, the RWC Chairperson of Palorinya Refugee Settlement, appreciated the government and partners for their continued efforts in skilling refugee communities, saying such initiatives restore hope.
“Skilling has been a key factor in building and empowering people to have hope in life. As we celebrate your graduation today, I urge the partners to continue engaging with graduates through follow-up activities,” Moga said.
Ogan Emmanuel, speaking on behalf of LWF, highlighted the impact of the program on both the refugee and host communities. “If you look at your children today, they are not the same as they were three months ago. This transformation brings us great joy and fulfillment,” he said.
