Elections officials in Arua city are still waiting, as the electoral commission is yet to make a pronouncement on the fate of the cells whose elections for the local council one chairpersons failed on the July 28, 2026, due to the issues of violence that were sparked by disagreements over a number of factors.
Several cells in Arua city, and some villages in the neighboring districts failed to conclude their elections on the day scheduled for the elections.
Osman Ezale, the returning officer in Arua city says, they will follow every directive they will receive from the electoral commission to ensure that, voting be concluded successfully in the affected areas.
“The commission is sitting today, they have not yet officially communicated, they are having deliberation over that issue, when the elections will be, we don’t know yet, but as soon as we get, we shall post, we don’t know what the commission will say, if they need a fresh registration, we shall do fresh registration, if they say we go back to those registers, we shall also take those registers back, we are just waiting for the guidelines,” Ezale said.
Ezale appeals to all the stakeholders involved in the management of elections to perform their roles diligently, as these elections are very important for the local council leadership.
“People should take elections peacefully, these are village elections where you know each other, we don’t need like hooliganism to be there, we appeal the candidates should prevail because in some places elections took place because of the candidates, the candidates, the political parties, all out stakeholders even the police should ensure there is peaceful elections,” Ezale emphasized.
Much as the turn up for voter registration was low in some of the cells, there was high voter turn up in most of the cells for voting, and though the majority of the cells managed their elections successfully, a number of them failed to observe the rules hence suspensions of their elections pending electoral commission directive.
