The leadership of Gulu City has successfully vetted the scholars who will be sent to study science related courses in the different universities around the country.
The exercise that happened on Saturday, August 01, 2026, from the RCC’s boardroom, saw 10 candidates emerge successful from both divisions of the city as Bardege Layibi had 4 and Laroo Pece 6 scholars, meeting the required number by the statehouse.
Gifter Aber, the Laroo Pece Division Mayor said the vetting was free and fair to all the candidates who turned up for the vetting, adding that those who failed to go through for some reason would be considered first in the next year’s selection.
“There was no selection based on relationship, people came on their own and the English in your books is what made you succeed. Those whose papers remained and didn’t succeed because of IDs, let’s wait for another slot,” she commented.
One of the successful candidates, Omara Samuel Lawrence, a resident of Bardege Layibi Division says his dreams will come true. “I am a student pursuing my bachelors in nursing science from KIU. With this program, I really see that my dream is going to be achieved. And I appreciate so much our government, the NRM party for the scholarships provided by the state house,” he said.
Kamba Amir, the Deputy RCC for Bardege Layibi advised the candidates to go and serve the people around them selflessly. “As we serve, we know that sometimes we need to serve for something. Service is sacrifice. Sacrifice is working for nothing. Like you are giving this thing for nothing. You are not giving any of us money. We don’t want to get your money. We are giving this service to qualify and serve.”
The Gulu City Resident City Commissioner, Ambrose Onoria appreciated all the parents for supporting their children to attain the scholarship.
“I want to thank those parents who have been here, because some parents don’t bother, they don’t care. They’re only waiting to see food which is served on the table. I want to thank you for having come. I want to congratulate you for loving your children. And for you also who are all here, I want to thank you for loving your mothers and your fathers.”
The Successful Candidates are Opio Allan, Atim Fortunate, Aparo Pamela, Rachkara Lawrence, Watmon Jerry Emmanuel, Odongo Emmanuel Anselmo, Rubangakene Elone, Opiyo Hassan Musa, Atim Henrieta and Omara Samuel Lawrence.
