The Episcopal Ordination and Installation of Bishop-elect Msgr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire as the new Bishop of Kabale Diocese will take place on October 3, 2026, at Rushoroza Cathedral.
The Apostolic Administrator of Kabale Diocese, Rt. Rev. Callist Rubaramira announced the date in a circular addressed to the clergy, religious, and faithful of the diocese.
According to the circular dated July 27, 2026, the ordination follows Pope Leo XIV’s acceptance of Bishop Rubaramira’s resignation in accordance with Canon 401 §1 and the subsequent announcement of Msgr. Gubazire as his successor by the Apostolic Nunciature to Uganda on July 15, 2026.
Bishop Rubaramira noted that he was appointed Apostolic Administrator to oversee the diocese until the ordination and installation of the new bishop. He called upon priests, religious and lay faithful to keep Bishop-elect Gubazire in their prayers as he prepares to assume leadership of the diocese.
The Apostolic Administrator also appealed to the faithful to actively participate in both the preparations and contributions towards the ordination ceremony, saying details of the celebrations will be communicated by the Ordination Committee in due course.
Msgr. Bonaventure Bosco Gubazire was appointed Bishop of Kabale Diocese following the resignation of Bishop Callist Rubaramira after reaching the canonical retirement age.
The Episcopal Ordination is expected to bring together Catholic faithful, bishops, priests, religious leaders and dignitaries from across Uganda and beyond for the historic celebration marking the beginning of Bishop-elect Gubazire’s episcopal ministry in Kabale Diocese.
